Carlo Ancelotti expressed, “We are determined to conclude the year with a victory in front of our supporters.”
Looking back on 2024, Ancelotti described the year as “incredible and unforgettable” and expressed hope that the team could replicate such success if everyone performs to their highest potential. He also highlighted the remarkable quality of Real Madrid’s squad. The highlight of the year for him was winning the European Cup, particularly after defeating Borussia Dortmund, while the loss to Barcelona at the Bernabéu was the biggest setback. Ancelotti acknowledged that while criticism can be tough, it is often constructive and provides an opportunity for growth.
Reflecting on the team’s achievements, Ancelotti said, “Despite facing challenges, it has been an exceptional year, with five titles won, which is something to be proud of. Our goal for next year is unchanged: to compete, battle, and secure the Champions League.”
Discussing the tough schedule ahead, Ancelotti recognized the difficulties in facing highly competitive teams, especially following the Intercontinental Cup win, and emphasized the need for the team to push hard in these final matches.
Regarding Kylian Mbappé, Ancelotti mentioned that Mbappé has adapted well to the team, showing good form and recovering from a minor injury. He praised his motivation and happiness at the club.
On the La Liga title race, Ancelotti anticipated a much tougher contest this season, with Atlético Madrid joining Real Madrid and Barcelona as serious contenders. He expects the race to be intense and possibly decided with fewer than 90 points.
Ancelotti stated that he enjoys press conferences, though he noted that around 10% of the questions can be difficult or inappropriate. Overall, he expressed gratitude for the experience and acknowledged the challenging schedule the players face.
When addressing team improvements, Ancelotti pointed out occasional unnecessary ball losses, despite the squad’s quality, and mentioned that the team is working on minimizing such risks.
Regarding the full-back positions, Ancelotti confirmed that Ferland Mendy has fully recovered and is ready for the next match. David Alaba is also progressing and is expected to rejoin the team after the break. He commended Lucas Vázquez and Fran García for stepping in during the absence of Carvajal and Mendy, noting that Valverde would only be used as a full-back in emergencies. Raúl is also being developed for this role.
On managing players like Vini Jr. and Kaká, Ancelotti emphasized that building confidence is key to unlocking their full potential. He acknowledged that different players respond to confidence in varying ways, but those with exceptional talent like Vini Jr. and Kaká will excel when given trust.
Finally, Ancelotti discussed the attacking quartet of Vini Jr., Rodrygo, Bellingham, and Mbappé, noting they haven’t played together often due to injuries but displayed promising chemistry when they did. He stressed the importance of their mobility and freedom in attack, encouraging Mbappé to focus on his ability to make runs behind defenders and to work on his consistency. Ancelotti believes that the team has multiple players who can deliver precise passes to support those runs.
