IGP approves new Area Commands, upgrades police stations in Benue

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has given approval for the establishment of two additional Area Commands in Benue State, alongside the elevation of five Police Stations to full Divisions, as part of efforts to strengthen security presence and efficiency across the state.

This was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Benue State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet.

She explained that the restructuring was introduced to tackle operational difficulties the Command had been experiencing in certain local government areas, especially where long distances between communities and security formations slowed police response.

“The two Area Commands created are Daudu Area Command and Naka Area Command, while the five police stations upgraded to Divisions are Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan Police Divisions,” the statement read.

According to Edet, Daudu Area Command will have under its jurisdiction Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions, while Naka Area Command will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Police Divisions.

“This adjustment will enhance policing in troubled areas with challenging terrains, ensure quicker resolution of conflicts between farmers and herders, and facilitate prompt response to distress calls,” she added.

Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, commended the IGP for what he described as timely intervention to address security gaps in the state.

He also extended appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his continued support of the Command’s drive to protect lives and property.
