Taraba govt unveils automated tax system to boost revenue, curb leakages

The Taraba State government has launched a fully automated tax collection system designed to improve revenue generation, enhance transparency, and eliminate financial leakages.

The initiative, unveiled at the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service, TSIRS, in Jalingo, on Thursday, marks the state’s transition from manual to digital tax administration.

Governor Agbu Kefas, who presided over the flag off ceremony, described the development as “a new chapter in mobilizing resources to build the Taraba of our dreams.”

He called on residents and indigenes in the diaspora to support the system regardless of their professions, stressing that collective contributions were vital to the state’s progress.

On his part, the TSIRS Chairman, Retired Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, said the automation was a “turning point” for revenue generation, transparency, and service delivery in the state. He noted that previous reforms over the past year had already boosted Taraba’s internally generated revenue ,IGR.

Faransa explained that the system would enable secure electronic payments, issue real-time receipts to taxpayers, and close loopholes that previously allowed revenue leakages, thereby strengthening public confidence in the state’s fiscal processes.
