Seven arrested for assaulting Lagos parking authority officials

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended seven suspects in connection with an attack on personnel of the Lagos Parking Authority, LASPA.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued by LASPA’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, who said the assault was allegedly carried out by some employees and security operatives attached to Better Mart on Badore Road, off Addo Road in Ajah, and Ashley Mall in Epe.
According to Adelabu, the suspects are currently being held at the Badore Police Station, Lekki, pending the conclusion of preliminary investigations, after which they will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction.
She stressed that LASPA remains committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice, warning that the Lagos State Government will not tolerate assaults on its officials.
Quoting Chapter 17, Section 117 of the Criminal Code of Nigeria, Adelabu noted that obstructing or resisting a public officer in the lawful discharge of their duties constitutes a felony punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment or a fine of N200,000 upon conviction.
She also explained that under the State Parking Regulations, all organisations and commercial establishments are required to obtain parking permits from LASPA to ensure proper parking management.
Adelabu added that the attacked team was on a routine compliance inspection when the incident occurred, leaving some officials injured.
