One dead, six arrested as police, ‘one-chance’ gang engage in gun battle in Abuja

A suspected member of one-chance gang has been killed by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said six members of the gang were arrested while the operational vehicle and other items belonging to the assailants were recovered.
Adeh explained that while on routine patrol with two vehicles on Wednesday, operatives of the Command sighted a victim, later identified as Angel Patrick, being pushed out of a moving vehicle along Kubwa Expressway.
She said the operatives stopped to rescue the victim and immediately conveyed her to Zankwochi Hospital, Mabushi, for urgent medical attention.
According to her, another team of operatives, comprising undercover officers, pursued the fleeing suspects to the Aso area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
According to the police spokesperson, following a hot chase and a fierce gun duel, the suspects were forcefully halted and arrested.
She identified the suspects as Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas and Tope Ola, all males from Mpape and Jude Simon of Mararaba.
The statement added, “Their operational vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, was recovered.
“One suspect was neutralized during the exchange of fire and later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.
“Investigations further revealed that one of the suspects: John Simon, had been arrested in December 2024, charged and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre for the same offence.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include: One vehicle, Six ATM cards suspected to belong to previous victims, One jackknife, Cash sum of N115,000, Other personal items suspected to belong to previous victims.
“The suspects, who freely confessed to being “one chance” operators, admitted they had been involved in the crime for several years now.”
