Police arrest two suspected cultists in Akwa Ibom, recover firearms

Akwa Ibom State Police command said it has arrested one Uwemedimo Michael Udah, 29, from Uyo Local Government Area and Prince Emmanuel Amasi-Tito, 32, from Rivers State for their involvement in cult related activities
It said the suspects were arrested during a raid on a hotel in Ikot-Udota, Eket Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday said a firearm, ammunition, and other items were recovered from the suspects during the raid.
The command Spokesperson said, following credible intelligence, the operatives gathered that some expelled students and dropouts had formed criminal gangs terrorizing people and engaging in other illicit activities like rape, extortion and cybercrime.
She listed the items recovered to include; One English Beretta, pistol with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition, One laptop, two Android phones, an MTN internet router, cocktail of suspected drug concoctions and three copies of power-of-attorney suspected to be stolen.
She said preliminary investigations showed that the gang is led by two individuals, Etieno Gideon James and another suspect known only as “Ale,” who are currently at large.
John said investigations are ongoing, adding that the operatives are working hard to ensure that those at large are apprehended.
