Abia has discovered future Falcons, athletes for Nigerian – Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has declared that his administration has discovered future players for the Super Falcons and other sporting talents for Abia State and Nigeria.

Otti made the declaration on Friday during the ending ceremony of the 2nd edition of the Abia State Governor’s Secondary Schools Unity Games, which was won by Ikwuano LGA with a total of 131 Medals.

The Governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Calab Ajagba said that the competition, which had 1000 secondary school students from the 17 LGAs of the State in 28 games, had successfully discovered future sporting champions for Abia State and Nigeria.

Otti announced that he would host three Abia indigenes in the victorious Super Falcons on Monday in the State.

He challenged the newly discovered sports stars in the Secondary schools’ competition to draw strength from the sterling performance of the Falcons.

He recalled the terrible conditions he met the Abia State sporting facilities on assumption of office but expressed happiness that the story had changed.

In his speech, Abia State Director of Sports, George Obioma thanked Governor Otti for funding the secondary schools games and for recently approving the upgrading of Umuahia township stadium to accommodate tartan tracks and other facilities.

Also speaking, Abia State commissioner for Sports and Youth Development said the games were not a jamboree but used to discover future sporting legends for Abia and Nigeria.

A gold medalist in Kung Fu, Miss Chijioke Chiagozie Marilyn told DAILY POST that she is aiming to represent Nigeria in future Olympics games and praised Governor Otti for giving her the opportunity to shine.

Meanwhile, Ikwuano LGA won 131 Medals to come 1st, Umunnochi won 74 Medals to come 2nd, while Umuahia North came 3rd with 53 Medals.
