Joint security team rescues three kidnapped victims in Kebbi


A joint security team has rescued three kidnapped victims following a gun battle with suspected abductors at Shanga Hills in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The victims, Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35), were abducted in the early hours of July 27, 2025, when armed men stormed Sangara village.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the rescue operation was carried out on Thursday, July 31, by a combined team of police officers, Nigerian Army personnel, NSCDC operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Shanga.

“The team trailed the kidnappers to Shanga Hill, where they engaged in a fierce gun duel. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the security team, the abductors fled with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning their captives,” the statement said.

The victims were rescued unharmed around 3:30 pm and are currently receiving medical attention ahead of their reunion with family members.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, praised the team’s bravery and professionalism and urged continued synergy among security agencies.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security authorities.
