The second phase of the Aurora Legacy Project, a multipurpose basketball court at the Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, has received a boost as National Football League (NFL) star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah presented an amount of GH¢10,000 to support it.
This followed the Cleveland Browns linebacker’s visit to the school to see the court project, which was unveiled and handed over to the school by Madam Aurora Commodore-Topper, a former student and treasurer of the Ghana Basketball Federation, on November 1.
The NFL star, who was in the company of the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, commended Madam Commodore-Topper for her resolve in supporting her alma mater as well as the development of basketball in the country.
Speaking to the media after an engagement with the school authorities, Mr Owusu-Koramoah, who also serves as the president of the Ghana Federation of American Football (GFAF), described the Aurora Legacy Project as a great initiative that deserved nationwide support.
“A lot of the times when we think about basketball, sports, and its infrastructure, it is limited to Accra, but there are talents elsewhere in the country, and Aburi also has talents and opportunities,” he stated.
“There are a lot of opportunities that this court provides for the users, and I urge you to keep it in good shape while harnessing its benefits,” he told members of the school team.
The Director-General of the NSA, Mr Ampofo Ankrah, applauded Madam Commodore-Topper for the project, stating that it was one that should be emulated by alumni of schools nationwide to help improve infrastructure.
Madam Commodore-Topper expressed gratitude to the GFAF president for his generous donation and announced that the second phase of the project, which includes seating and other basketball logistics for the school, will begin before the end of the year.
