North-Central APC urges Plateau Governor Mutfwang to defect

The North-Central APC Forum has urged Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to heed calls to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, who reiterated the call on Thursday in Jos, stated that “further developments are in favour of Mutfwang’s defection right now.”

Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council in the 2023 election, made the remarks during the forum’s third-quarter meeting in the Plateau State capital.

He observed that the North-Central APC Forum was the first political entity to call on the governor to decamp from PDP to APC, following its calculations and political predictions before and after the 2023 elections, which he said are now generally becoming a reality across the board.

According to him, the forum’s efforts have yielded concrete results, including the establishment of the North-Central Development Commission and the return of the APC national chairmanship position to the North-Central from the North-West. He added that the forum has consistently championed support for President Bola Tinubu’s policies while also persuading governors and party chieftains from other parties to join APC.

“Our push and calls for Governor Caleb Mutfwang to join the APC have been ongoing since 2023. Many other political entities that are now seeing that possibility are also joining in making the call.

“But the fact remains that we were the first ever to make the call. And this is due to our political sagacity, investigatory wisdom, political mobilisation and participation, grassroots engagements, and funding of party members and structures, among others.

“Talking about the call for Mutfwang to join the APC, he should follow his administration’s mantra of ‘The Time is Now’ and join the APC now. All is now set for him to do so, and his good works and value can be appreciated more should he join the APC.

“Another of our outstanding reasons for calling on him all this while is that Governor Mutfwang has so far shown that he is a progressive governor through his works, words and deeds since assuming office. But for him to advance further, he should consider joining the APC.

“This is because joining the APC will put him on the same page with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who has the interest of Plateau at heart and has been doing his best to advance it.

“Besides, Governor Mutfwang will be on the same page with his counterparts in the North-Central who are in the APC, and together they will have common ground and work for the interests and development of the region in general and their specific states in particular.

“Also, most of the legislators from the state are in the APC, and they can work hand-in-hand to move the state forward, because the relationship between the executive and the legislature cannot be overemphasised in the pursuit of progress and development and in addressing security challenges,” Zazzaga said.

Speaking further, Zazzaga explained that APC members opposed to Mutfwang’s defection do not understand political strategy. He stressed that such individuals are acting independently, as their selfish interests cannot override the collective good of the party.
