Ugbevwe community school in Idjerhe has only four teachers- Activist, women cry out

A human right activist in Idjerhe Community, Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Emebradu Kenneth on Thursday said Ugbevwe Secondary School in Idjerhe Community currently has only four teachers employed by the state government.
In an interview with DAILY POST, Kenneth claimed that the school which is bushy, also lacks chairs and other furnitures, fence and security.
He lamented that students sit on the bare floor to learn, saying weeds have overtaken the school’s compound and the children live in fear of reptiles.
According to him, the Community on its own engaged and employed three teachers in addition to the four employed by the government to aid teaching and learning in the school.
Kenneth strongly appealed to the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led Delta State Government to urgently come to the aid of the school by employing more teachers to educate the students, provide chairs, security as well as fence the institution to prevent its properties from being vandalized by hoodlums.
Kenneth also begged the governor provide the school with mowers to clear the weeds.
Students of the school in a protest corroborated his claims exclaiming,”We need more teachers, we need chairs. Government help us.”
Meanwhile, Idjerhe Community Women have also staged a peaceful protest calling on the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s led Delta State Government to come to the aid of Ugbevwe Secondary School.
The protesters who chanted solidarity songs around the school, said the number of the teachers were inadequate to teach their children.
They lamented that the school has no security guards to keep watch and has no fence to secure its perimeters.
They appealed to Governor Oborevwori to urgently take steps to employ and deploy teachers to help make learning interesting and enjoyable foro the students, with a view to mould them become leaders of tomorrow.
