Chris Hughton hails ‘good coach’ Otto Addo ahead of Japan, South Korea friendlies

Former Ghana coach Chris Hughton has lauded Black Stars head coach Otto Addo ahead of the team’s games against Japan and South Korea.

Addo took over the Black Stars job following the dismissal of the former Newcastle United and Brighton manager.

Following his appointment, the former Borussia Dortmund man guided Ghana to a second World Cup qualification after the team missed out on playing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Addo has faced loads of criticisms during his second spell as the head coach of the national team, but Hughton believes the former has achieved something not many coaches can do.

“Otto Addo is a very good coach. He has now taken the team to two World Cups, not something many coaches do,” Hughton said in an interview with 3Sports.

“He is a good coach. As an individual, I like him a lot.”

In his time as head coach of the Black Stars, Hughton led Ghana to the 2023 AFCON, where the team failed to win any game in the group stage, suffering an early exit.

The Black Stars are currently in camp, where they will face Japan in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup on November 14 before coming up against South Korea four days later.
