29th GJA Awards: Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z wins Best Radio Entertainment Programme 


Joy FM’s entertainment analysis programme, Showbiz A‑Z on Joy FM, has been awarded Best Radio Entertainment Programme at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.

The event is was held on Saturday, 8th November 2025 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

This recognition underscores the show’s continuing influence as a leading voice in Ghana’s tourism, arts and culture industry. It is the most authoritative entertainment talk show in Ghana. 

Hosted by arts and culture journalist Kwame Dadzie, Showbiz A-Z airs every Saturday from 2pm to 6pm on Joy 99.7 FM. Kwame has built a reputation over 16 years as a journalist covering Ghana’s creative industries, bringing technical insight and accessible storytelling to his work. He is known for his probing and analytical style of hosting, grounded in a wealth of background knowledge in issues regarding the showbiz space. Kwame also brings to bear, a tinge of humour that buoys up panelists and resource persons for the various discussions.

The programme is produced by Philip Nai, a highly regarded media practitioner whose career spans nearly 17 years. He has served as lead and senior producer for Joy Entertainment and been responsible for a number of flagship broadcast productions.  

Showbiz A-Z is known for its in-depth analysis of topics spanning tourism, arts and culture, particularly in context of Ghana’s creative economy, which contributes significant employment and revenue. The show seeks to influence policy direction on matters such as intellectual property rights, infrastructure, funding for the cultural and creative industries, talent development, among others. 

Under Philip Nai’s production, with support from Anita Teye, Oliver Fangnon and DJ Wobeti, the programme has tackled issues including policy-making for the creative sector, health and wellbeing among creatives, substance abuse in the industry, taxation of creative activity, and safety and security at cultural events.

The show also hosts a quarterly outdoor event called the Showbiz Roundtable which engages industry stakeholders to discuss key issues bordering on tourism and the creative economy. 

In 2024 the Roundtable held a special edition for the country’s two major political parties: the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC): on their manifestos for the creative economy.

In terms of tourism and culture Showbiz A-Z has taken the show to some tourism destinations in the country including Afadja Mountain in the Volta Region, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, while throwing the spotlight on the various culture and tourism offerings in the respective areas. 

In addition, this year the programme introduced a monthly segment titled ‘Music Lab’, designed to review songs through a technical and professional lenses. The segment has so far reviewed tracks such as Sacrifice by Black Sherif, Street Crown by Shatta Wale, and Sankofa by Gyakie. The segment has received high praise for its analytical approach.  

The 29th GJA Awards marked a milestone, as it was the first time the ceremony was held outside Accra. The event took place in Kumasi under the distinguished patronage of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The recognition of programmes such as Showbiz A-Z reinforces the role of media in providing credible, engaging content in the increasingly competitive entertainment space.

Showbiz A-Z hosted airs on Saturdays from 2pm to 6pm on Joy 99.7 FM.
