GJA Awards: Godwin Asediba wins 2024 Journalist of the Year

In a historic night held for the first time under the patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards ceremony culminated with Godwin Asediba of TV3 being named the 2024 Journalist of the Year.
At the same time, The Multimedia Group Limited, the foremost private media conglomerate in Ghana, swept eight awards in a testament to the firm’s dominance in the industry.
The glittering event, held at the majestic Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday, November 8, 2025, celebrated excellence in Ghanaian media under the theme: “Safeguarding Ghana’s future: The role of the media in promoting peace, security and the fight against galamsey.”
Godwin Asediba, an accomplished investigative reporter, filmmaker, and news anchor, was celebrated for his consistent focus on human-interest stories, which aim to expose injustice and amplify the voices of marginalised communities.
The 29-year-old journalist, who works with both TV3 and 3FM, is the 29th recipient of the GJA’s top award, succeeding a lineage of distinguished Ghanaian reporters.
Notably, he is also the 10th recipient of the prestigious BBC Komla Dumor Award, a testament to his dedication to bringing a nuanced, confident, and entrepreneurial narrative of Africa to a global audience. His work has frequently been featured on several international broadcasters.
The magnitude of this year’s ceremony was underscored by the presence of key national figures, including the Special Guest of Honour, President John Dramani Mahama, and the acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
Corporate Ghana also threw its weight behind the media fraternity.
The event’s headline sponsor was the KGL Group, whose Executive Chairman, Alex Apau Dadey, was also a speaker. Major co-sponsors included Special Ice Mineral Water and Tobinco Pharmacy.
In a major incentive announcement, it was revealed that the top three winners of the night will be treated to a fully paid trip to Turkey, sponsored by Turkish Airlines.
