Troops neutralise ISWAP fighters in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised a suspected ISWAP fighter during an ambush operation in the Kirawa area of Borno State.

The operation, carried out late Thursday along the Gakara–Kirawa axis, was conducted in collaboration with hybrid forces and members of the civilian joint task force (CJTF).

Security expert Zagazola Makama revealed the development on his X handle, stating that the troops intercepted the insurgents believed to be part of a logistics supply team.

According to a military source quoted by Makama, the soldiers opened fire on the terrorists, killing one of them while others escaped with possible gunshot wounds.

Items recovered from the scene included two bicycles, three bags of semovita, 200 sachets of salt, 19 wrappers, and 11 bottles of energy drink, believed to be supplies intended for the insurgents’ hideouts.

The source added that no soldier or civilian was injured during the encounter.

Makama noted that the Nigerian military has recently intensified its offensive operations in the Timbuktu Triangle and Lake Chad fringes to block the terrorists’ logistics routes and restrict their movement.
