Police arrest three suspected gunrunners, recover AK-47, 730 rounds of ammunition in Kebbi

Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspected gunrunners and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with over 730 rounds of live ammunition in separate operations in Bena and Dolekaina towns.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, the first operation occurred on October 30, 2025, when a joint patrol team comprising officers from Bena Division and personnel of the 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Birnin Kebbi, intercepted two suspects, 20-year-old Rabi’u Umar from Mariga LGA of Niger State, and 26-year-old Nasiru Hussaini from Bauchi State, along the Bena-Ribah Road.
He said one fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 7.62×39mm live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
Similarly, on November 3, 2025, a surveillance team from Dolekaina Division arrested one Lawwali Ibrahim of Anka town, Zamfara State, at the Bakin Mashaya area in possession of 732 rounds of 7.62×39mm live ammunition.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have smuggled the exhibits into Nigeria from Mokassa town in Benin Republic, with the intention of delivering them to Anka,” Abubakar stated.
He added that the cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Birnin Kebbi, for further investigation and prosecution.
Abubakar said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the Divisional Police Officers of Bena and Dolekaina for their effective intelligence gathering and sustained efforts in combating gunrunning, banditry, and other violent crimes across the state.
