UCL: You destroyed your team – Wenger names player Slot shouldn’t have signed for Liverpool

Legendary Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has claimed Arne Slot “destroyed” his Liverpool team by signing Florian Wirtz in the summer.

The Reds splashed over £400 million on new signings after Slot won the Premier League title in his first season.

Because of these additions, a lot of observers expected Liverpool to become one of the strongest teams.

But the defending champions have already six games in all competitions and seven points behind new title favourites Arsenal.

Slot’s men have however found some form recently, beating Aston Villa in the league, before recording a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

But Wenger has questioned the decision to disrupt a title-winning midfield by signing Wirtz.

“Liverpool is an interesting example,” Wenger said on beIN SPORTS.

“When Wirtz had the choice between going to Bayern Munich or to Liverpool. He said to Liverpool, “I come to you if I play No.10, I do not want to play wide”. Liverpool to get him say, “okay”.

“So they start him, they destroyed their midfield because their midfield was [Ryan] Gravenberch, [Alexis] Mac Allister and [Dominik] Szoboszlai, to play Wirtz they took Szoboszlai out.”
