Niger Governor Bago commends massive turnout of women in council elections

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has stated that the overwhelming turnout of women voters in the local government polls has strengthened his resolve to continue introducing and supporting initiatives that empower women and improve their quality of life.

The governor gave the commendation after casting his vote alongside his wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, at the Tswashagi Raba polling unit under Landzun Ward, Bida.

He explained, “The large number of women in most of the polling units was encouraging and a demonstration that the women-friendly policies championed by the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, and my wife, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, are steps in the right direction.”

He acknowledged some challenges encountered in certain areas but noted that swift action was taken to redeploy election materials to affected locations.

The governor also used the opportunity to thank all security agencies for their efforts in maintaining a peaceful and orderly exercise.

Bago reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to democratic principles and reiterated his determination to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
