Hamza Suhuyini: “If We Went Back in Time, Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and Ofori-Atta Would Face Execution”

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Suhuyini, has launched a strong criticism against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of poor economic management and corruption.

During a political discussionat Metro TV , Suhuyini argued that the current economic hardships are the result of “propaganda-driven leadership and reckless financial decisions” under the NPP administration.

He maintained that the government’s decision to implement the debt exchange programme and introduce new taxes, such as the e-levy, were attempts to conceal “economic incompetence and corruption.”

According to him, while the NDC under John Mahama managed the economy with transparency, the NPP’s record was filled with financial scandals, pointing to the National Service Secretariat, the Buffer Stock Company, and the Electricity Company of Ghana as examples.

“Look at the level of looting under this government people are suffering in hospitals because there are no basic drugs, yet huge sums of money have been siphoned,” he noted.

Mr. Suhuyini further alleged that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta had fled the country to avoid accountability after leaving office, claiming he was “running away from facing questions about his role in the economic crisis.”

In a controversial remark, Suhuyini stated that if Ghana were in the era of the 1979 “house cleaning” exercise led by former Head of State Jerry John Rawlings, President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia, and Ken Ofori-Atta “would have been viable candidates for execution” because of what he described as their “economic crimes” against the state.

He stressed that the NPP, in his view, poses the greatest threat to Ghana’s democratic and economic stability and should be held accountable even while in opposition.
