Police probe Lassia Toulu shooting incidentFrom Naziru Alhassan, Wa


The Upper West Regional Police Command has begun investigations into a violent shooting incident at Lassia Toulu in the Wa West District, which left one person dead and several others injured on Sunday night.

In a statement signed by the Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Yiribaare, the attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. when unidentified gunmen on two motorbikes stormed a local drinking spot and opened fire indiscriminately after allegedly robbing a nearby barbering shop, provision store, and restaurant.

Police patrol teams were swiftly dispatched to the area and managed to rescue the injured, who were first treated at the Lassia St. Ignatius Health Centre before being transferred to the Wa Regional Hospital for further care.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while others sustained varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

Crime scene investigators later recovered eight spent BB cartridges as evidence, while efforts have been intensified to trace and arrest the perpetrators.

A joint delegation comprising officials from the District Assembly, the Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) visited the community to assess the situation and interact with victims, witnesses, and local leaders.

ACP Yiribaare and the Wa West District Chief Executive also visited the injured at the Wa Regional Hospital, where medical officers confirmed that all victims were responding positively to treatment.

Meanwhile, joint security patrols involving the Police, Military, and Immigration officers have been intensified within Lassia Toulu and nearby communities to ensure safety.

The Police Command urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement to restore peace and stability in the area.
