Over 10 herders reportedly killed in reprisal attack at Tilli community Kebbi

No fewer than ten people have reportedly been killed in a reprisal attack on a Fulani settlement in Tilli community, Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday, was said to have followed the killing of a vigilante member by suspected Lakurawa bandits in the area.

Residents said the vigilante’s death was blamed on Fulani herders living in the community, prompting some locals to launch a retaliatory assault on their settlement.

According to a local source, the attackers invaded the settlement in the early hours of Sunday, killing more than ten people and injuring several others.

“The reprisal attack was carried out in error. They thought the Fulani were responsible for the vigilante’s death,” the source said. “Over ten people were killed, while several others sustained injuries. The search for more bodies is still ongoing.”

It was gathered that the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, and officials of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, visited the community to commiserate with the families of the victims.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said he was yet to receive a report on the incident but promised to provide details later.
