Asamankese: Two reportdely shot to death over chieftancy dispute

Recall that just last month, the Royal Akua Korang Akwamu Abrade Family of Asamankese in the Lower West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Inspector-General of Police to take immediate steps to resolve the long-standing chieftaincy dispute in the area.

The family warned that the situation where Asamankese currently has two parallel chiefs is not only fuelling insecurity but also discouraging investors and stalling development.

Speaking at a press engagement at the family’s ancestral home, Akwamu Fie in Asamankese-Beposo, Osabarima Kentinka Pobi Asomaning, who maintains that he is the legitimate chief of Asamankese, expressed frustration over the lack of enforcement of judicial and traditional rulings in his favour.

He added that despite securing judgments from competent judicial and traditional bodies, including the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs Judicial Committee, the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council Judicial Committee, and the High Court in Koforidua, none of the rulings have been enforced.

Unfortunately, just last evening, two people were shot to death during a dispute which was initially just an exchange of words between factions of the two parallel chiefs but later escalated into something terrible.
