The family of Mr and Mrs Karikari Fordjour has donated medical equipment and consumables valued at over GH¢10,000 to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital in the Bono Region.
The donation was made to commemorate the seventh birthday anniversary of their triplets — Lordina Karikari Boahemaa, Lorita Karikari Boahemaa, and Lorinda Karikari Boahemaa — who were born prematurely at the hospital in 2018.
According to the family, the gesture was a token of gratitude to the hospital for the dedicated and professional care given to their babies during their stay at the NICU. Sadly, the only male among the quadruplets did not survive.
The donated items included two thermometers, an air conditioner, 10 oxygen flow metres, two gallons of liquid soap, assorted feeding tubes (sizes 8 and 10), cannulas, a pulse oximeter, a swivel chair, 18 cot sheets, packs of tissue, and hand sanitisers, among others.
Presenting the items on Thursday, Mr Fordjour, an officer at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department in Sunyani, said the family — with support from his colleagues — decided to give back to the hospital that gave their children “a second chance at life.”
He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Jemima Antwi Boasiako, a storekeeper at the Sunyani Technical Institute, as well as relatives and colleagues from his workplace.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Administrator of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, Mr Samuel Dodzi, expressed appreciation to the family for their thoughtful and timely gesture.
“These are critical tools for our work. Without them, it becomes difficult to provide the needed care for premature babies. This donation is therefore very timely,” Mr Dodzi said.
He added that the act of kindness by the Karikari family would inspire others to extend similar support to the hospital.
