Francis Amuzu Expresses Readiness To Play For Ghana After Black Stars’ World Cup Qualification

Grêmio forward, Francis Amuzu, has declared his readiness to represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after his earlier decision of choosing Belgium at the international level.

The Belgian-born winger, who currently plies his trade in Brazil with Grêmio, says Ghana’s qualification for the global showpiece has rekindled his passion to wear the Black Stars jersey.

Speaking in an interview, Amuzu said while his current focus remains on club football, it would be an honour to play for the country of his birth.

“For me, I’m a Ghanaian; I was born in Ghana, so I’m happy that they qualified for the World Cup. It’s also a wonderful tournament to play — one of the biggest in the world. To be honest, at the moment my heart is really with Ghana. If Ghana comes, for sure I will go, and I hope they can call me,” he said.

“But now my focus is just here at Grêmio to try and perform every game, and then in the future we’ll see what happens.”

Amuzu, 25, previously represented Belgium at youth level and turned down an invitation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in 2021, citing his desire to break into the Belgian national team.

However, his recent comments suggest a renewed willingness to commit to the Black Stars project ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

His declaration comes amid a wave of reports linking several foreign-born players to potential nationality switches to represent Ghana, following the team’s successful qualification for the tournament.

Among those reportedly considering a switch are Callum Hudson-Odoi of Nottingham Forest and Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal — both born in England but eligible to play for Ghana through their heritage.

Amuzu’s potential inclusion could bolster Ghana’s attacking options, as coach Otto Addo looks to assemble a competitive squad capable of making an impact at the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
