Anambra: ADC candidate kicks against campaign donations to Soludo

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, has challenged the donation of funds to the governor of Anambra State by various communities.
Nwosu said the donations breach electoral laws, describing the development as deeply troubling.
Governor Soludo has been moving his campaign train from community to community, and each community visited presents cheques of hundreds of millions of naira to support his re-election.
Nwosu who spoke to journalists, warned that the development raises serious concerns under the nation’s electoral laws, as well as moral and ethical questions.
“I’m aware of reports that some groups and towns have made humongous donations to Governor Soludo and APGA in purported support of his campaign. Such donations raise genuine concerns about compliance with the Electoral Act, morality, and the rule of law.
“If cash-strapped local governments are donating millions to the governor’s campaign, that is a charade and a blatant display of official dishonesty,” he stated.
The ADC candidate noted that while individuals are free to support any candidate of their choice, any form of quid pro quo arrangement — such as inflated contracts or kickbacks disguised as campaign donations — would amount to corruption and criminal subterfuge.
Nwosu expressed dismay over the matter, saying the donations are coming despite what he described as poor performance and limited evidence of grassroots development.
He accused the APGA-led government of going rogue, citing what he called unprecedented levels of vote-buying and public deceit during recent by-elections in the state.
“At no time in Anambra’s political history have we witnessed such open desperation to manipulate the voting public. Governor Soludo does not enjoy the people’s support and does not deserve re-election based on his record.
“Those who sell their votes are selling their patrimony, freedom, and future. Elections should be won by popular choice, not through purchased loyalty,” he emphasized.
He appealed to Anambra people to vote for the ADC, promising a return to honesty, fairness and people-centered leadership.
