Ashaiman MP secures 80% funding for mini sports stadium project

Ernest Norgbey, Member of Parliament for the Ashaiman Constituency, has announced that funding for the construction of an ultra-modern mini sports stadium at Roman Down Park is 80% secured.

He said discussions with the Common Fund administration have reached an advanced stage, paving the way for the commencement of the long-awaited sports infrastructure project.

“We are about 80% through with getting the funding to build that mini stadium at the Roman Park,” Ernest Norgbey said.

“It’s something that befits Ashaiman. No two ways about it. I can assure you that the project will see the light of day.”

According to him, the initiative forms part of efforts to promote sports development and provide opportunities for young athletes in Ashaiman and its surrounding communities.

The mini stadium, once completed, will include an athletics track, a seating area, parking spaces, an inner perimeter, and a modern playing field.

Norgbey explained that his office has been working closely with the Common Fund Administrator and the Municipal Chief Executive to secure the necessary support and financing for the project.

He expressed confidence that the remaining stages of funding would be finalised soon.

“I met with the Common Fund Administrator, with the Chief Executive, and we put hands together. There are other details I may not be able to disclose in public, but I can assure you this project will happen,” he said.

The planned mini stadium is expected to give a significant boost to community sports, nurture young talent, and potentially host district-level competitions.

The MP also hinted that while Roman Down Park is the starting point, there may be plans in the future to replicate similar projects in other parts of the constituency.

“Probably, we may need more of those stadiums, but this is what befits Ashaiman as we speak now,” he added.
