NSCDC nabs two cable vandals, others in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested two men over alleged cable vandalism and theft in the state.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Command’s spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf, said the suspects, identified as Muhammadu Sani (38) and Muhammed Auwal (34), were apprehended on September 29, 2025, following credible intelligence from residents of the Fonde-Haire community in Toro Local Government Area.

According to Yusuf, the suspects were caught in the act of vandalising communication cables, and tools including a digger, shovel, and saw machine were recovered from the scene.

In a separate case, the spokesperson disclosed that Musa Ibrahim (22) was arrested on September 27, 2025, at Muda Lawan Market, Bauchi, for theft, shop burglary, and vandalising air conditioners, from which he stole valuable items.

Yusuf noted that all suspects confessed to the crimes and have been charged to court for prosecution.

Reacting to the arrests, the State Commandant, Oloyede Nelson, condemned the increasing rate of vandalism, describing it as a serious threat to public infrastructure and economic stability.

Nelson stressed that damage to communication and power installations could disrupt essential services and impede socio-economic growth.

He reiterated the Corps’ resolve to intensify its clampdown on vandals, warning that offenders would face severe legal consequences.

“The Corps remains committed to eliminating acts of vandalism. Anyone caught sabotaging public property will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Nelson stated.
