Otti approves backlog payment for 265 deceased Abia workers

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has approved that the backlog of over fifty million naira due to 265 Abia workers who died in the past 16 years should be paid.
The payment, which is valued at over fifty million naira, is to be received by the verified next-of- kin of the deceased workers.
The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
He said that the payment is part of the State government’s commitment in the welfare of workers, adding that the policy differentiates the present administration from the previous ones.
“The payment will be made to their verified next-of-kin,” Kanu said.
He announced that the Abia State government will flag-off the reconstruction of 25 Km of Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road and 13.1 Km Uriam Usaka ring road in Ikwuano LGA.
The State government vowed to restore power in Ohafia, lamenting that the town and its communities had been without power supply in the past seven years.
The Commissioner also announced that the first phase of functionalisation of renovated primary health care centres had been completed.
