Births and Deaths Registrar explains current registration fees

The Registrar of Births and Deaths, Samuel Adom Botchway, has clarified the current charges for the registration of births and deaths in Ghana, urging parents and guardians to complete registrations on time to avoid extra costs.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Botchway explained that birth registration for children aged 0 to 12 months is completely free. However, once a child is older than one year, the process is classified as late registration and attracts a fee.
“Children aged between one and five years pay GH¢13, while those above five years pay GH¢25,” he stated.
He added that all payments are made electronically through the Ghana.gov platform.
“You simply go to the Ghana.gov app, select the type of registration you are applying for, make the payment, and you will receive a receipt, which is then used for printing the certificate,” he explained.
On death registration, Mr Botchway said that recording a death within ten days of its occurrence is free of charge, but late registration attracts a fee.
He encouraged Ghanaians to comply with the timelines for both birth and death registrations, stressing that timely registration not only reduces costs but also ensures accurate national data for effective planning and development.
