Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appointed former House of Representatives member, Francis Agbo, alongside 22 others, as coordinators for the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The move aims to promote grassroots democracy and ensure wider citizen participation in governance.
The governor made the announcement in Makurdi during an expanded caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Alia, the newly appointed coordinators will oversee APC affairs at the local level and work towards reinforcing the party’s presence and influence in their respective areas.
He urged them to act as worthy representatives of both the party and his administration by intensifying efforts to attract new members and strengthen party unity across the state.
The governor also emphasized the need for them to stay connected to the grassroots, ensuring that government projects and interventions reach the intended beneficiaries.
Alia warned that any diversion of resources meant for the people would not be tolerated, stressing that each appointee would be held accountable for their actions.
He also encouraged them to collaborate with local stakeholders to enhance participation in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise.
He assured that the state government would provide necessary support for their assignments, describing their roles as crucial, particularly with the general elections approaching.
Governor Alia further criticized the growing tendency of bringing minor political disputes directly to him in Makurdi, noting that the newly appointed point men would now handle such matters.
Only unresolved or critical issues, he said, should be escalated to his office.
In addition, he directed the coordinators to identify 200 artisans across Benue for job placements and 800 young people interested in traveling abroad to acquire vocational skills.
Those selected, he stated, must obtain a fitness certificate from the Father Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Alia expressed appreciation to APC members for their continuous loyalty and cooperation, assuring them that his administration would remain fair, transparent, and accountable.
He reiterated that the APC stood for excellence and could not afford to compromise on good governance. (NAN)
