Health minister orders amnesty for queried nurse

Health minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to grant amnesty to Ms. Bernice Aboagye, the nurse at stationed at Nkenkensu government hospital who has been queried

Recall that about a week and a few days ago, Ms Bernice Aboagye described the Health Minister as drama king during a demonstration where nurses who have been unpaid for 10 months were demanding payment of their salaries.

In a press release signed by the Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson, Mr. Tony Goodman, the Ministry acknowledged receipt of the query letter issued to the nurse and commended the GHS for upholding professionalism and enforcing the Code of Conduct for health workers.

The Ministry emphasized that such disciplinary actions are essential in maintaining standards within the service.

However, Hon Akandoh has urged the GHS to approach the matter with compassion and leniency.

As emphasised by the Minister, he believes that both he and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism as part of a healthy democratic culture.

He once again reiterated his commitment to encouraging tolerance and openness to diverse opinions within the health fraternity.

The Minister further appealed to all health workers to express their concerns and opinions responsibly and respectfully.

However, he advised against the use of insults or unprofessional language, stating that such conduct undermines the growth and harmony of the health sector.

Constructive dialogue, he said, is key to addressing challenges and promoting the collective welfare of health professionals.
