Five die in head-on collision near Agona


A tragic road traffic collision late on Thursday, 9th October 2025, has claimed the lives of five passengers following a head-on crash between a Hyundai Elantra and a VIP bus near Tano-Odumase in the Sekyere South District in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters at the Agona Fire Station received a distress call in the late hours of Thursday reporting a serious accident along the Tano-Odumase stretch.

The incident involved a VIP bus with registration number GT 6475-20, travelling from Ejura to Sogakope in the Volta Region, and a Hyundai Elantra saloon car, registration number AW 6538-11, heading from Kona towards Tano-Odumase.

The Hyundai Elantra, carrying six passengers, reportedly collided head-on with the VIP bus. Five of the occupants in the Hyundai died instantly, while one survivor was rescued by the GNFS crew and rushed to the Agona Government Hospital for medical attention.

The VIP bus, while sustaining minor damage, recorded no injuries among its passengers.

The five deceased victims were extricated from the wreckage by fire personnel and handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the scene for further investigation and identification.

The Hyundai Elantra was left mangled beyond repair, highlighting the severity of the impact.
