Three feared dead in Ogun latest cult clash

At least three people have been killed in a cult-related clash that occurred in Atan-Ota, Ogun State.

A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, said that the incident in Atan-Ota happened around 8:00 p.m. on Monday in the Kajola area.

According to the source, the violent confrontation involved suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.

The attack, allegedly carried out by Aiye members, was believed to be a reprisal for the earlier killing of one of their members by the rival group.

The source explained that the assailants invaded the area, firing multiple gunshots to instill panic before killing three people suspected to belong to the Eiye cult group.

“There was a cult clash between Aiye and Eiye. The Aiye group killed some Eiye members. When they stormed the area, they shot sporadically and caused tension before killing the victims. The killings are a fallout of an attack carried out by Eiye members on an Aiye member about two weeks ago,” the source said.

Efforts to get comments from the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful, as she had not responded to enquiries at press time.
