WTD Accident: Five teachers sustain severe injuries after auto crash in Delta


Five teachers returning from the celebration of World Teachers Day have narrowly escaped death in an auto crash.

The teachers from Ughelli South local government area, Delta State were involved in an accident along the Ughelli-Asaba express way on Sunday, while going back to their base after the world teachers day event in Asaba.

They were traveling on a bus when their vehicle had a collision with a moving truck at Akiewhe in Isoko North local government.

Some of the teachers, who, however, broke their legs, hands, head and sustained other various degrees of injury are currently in critical health condition at the hospital.

Our source said, “The truck driver veered off his lane when the bus was already close. He attempted to overtake. The truck driver turned his steering towards the bus and a major collision occurred.

“There were about ten teachers on the bus also driven by a teacher. The accident was serious that rescuers could not pull out victims from the bus. They axed the bus before they could pull out the victims.

“Five teachers had very severe injury including the Secretary of the NUT, Ughelli South LGA chapter, the Vice Chairman and others. The teachers were were rushed to the Central Hospital Ughelli,” the source added.

The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Rose Ezewu, has visited the hospital to get first hand information and to also sympathize with the victims.
