$300m Bright International Amusement Park set to become Ghana’s 24-hr economy epicentre — Pres Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday joined Greenhouse Group Chairman, Mr Zheng Xiangming, in Afienya, Tema, to perform the ground-breaking sod-cutting ceremony for the $300 million Bright International Freezones Amusement Park.
The sprawling 500-acre facility, which already hosts factories and other thriving businesses, is set to become a focal point of the government’s 24-hour economy vision.

The park’s design, which integrates industrial production, retail, hospitality, and leisure, offers a complete ecosystem for a vibrant 24-hour economy, enabling round-the-clock jobs and access to goods and services.
It will cater to Ghana’s growing middle class and tourists, offering water slides, a golf park, rides, and a world-class hotel with a convention centre. The park is expected to attract visitors from across West Africa, positioning Ghana as a regional hub for recreation and business tourism.
Located on 1,200 acres in Tema’s New City Free Zone, the park combines manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, hospitality, and real estate.
Commissioned in 2019, it already houses enterprises such as Bright Cement Ghana, Bright Recycling, China Fujian Fishing Ghana, and AfriMall, a chain of retail malls selling 100 per cent Made-in-Ghana products.
The facility supports rice cultivation, aquaculture, food processing, electronics, furniture, and home appliances manufacturing, driving import substitution and industrial diversification.
President Mahama described the facility as “a world-class project that embodies Ghana’s industrial renaissance and the 24-hour economy dream,” and he endorsed an official agreement between Greenhouse Group and Hong Kong-based Hongchen, signalling stronger international collaboration.
He recalled his long-standing relationship with Mr Zheng Xiangming, saying: “More than 15 years ago, Mr Zheng came to my office when I was Vice President under the late Professor Atta Mills, with a dream to construct industries in Ghana and create employment. Many would have given up along the way, but not him. Step by step, he has built a world-class facility with nearly 70 operating factories.”
President Mahama emphasised that the Bright International Industrial Park and its amusement park would serve as the core of Ghana’s 24-hour economy, designed to promote continuous production, trade, and service delivery, boosting jobs, exports, and productivity.
“Greenhouse is working closely with the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat because this will be the epicentre of the 24-hour economy. Stable power is crucial, and arrangements have been made with the Bui Power Authority to ensure reliable electricity for continuous operations,” he added.
Highlighting youth employment, President Mahama noted the park’s one-month intensive training programme for graduates of the Free SHS system who may not pursue university education.
“Here, they acquire international-standard skills for factory work, equipping them to thrive locally and abroad,” he said.
“The park’s export-oriented model aligns with Ghana’s hosting of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, offering duty-free access to African markets,” he added.
Chairman Zheng Xiangming described the project as “a premier entertainment and commercial landmark in West Africa,” emphasising Greenhouse Group’s commitment to industrial localisation, employment creation, and integration into Ghana’s 24-hour economy.
On her part, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, highlighted the group’s $700 million investment since 2011 and its creation of over 10,000 direct jobs.
“This new 500-acre amusement park will feature state-of-the-art leisure, cultural, and business facilities, sparking tourism, energising businesses, and fostering cultural exchange across West Africa,” she stated.
