EPL: Ekitike, Isak attack-minded – Daniel Sturridge names player Liverpool missed against Chelsea

Former England striker, Daniel Sturridge, has insisted that Liverpool missed Luis Diaz during their Premier League 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

According to Sturridge, Liverpool missed the pressing and defensive work rate of Diaz, who left Anfield to join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

The 36-year-old also noted that Liverpool attackers Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak are attack-minded players, while Diaz sacrificed himself a little bit more defensively.

“Luis Diaz is a massive miss for them,” Sturridge told Sky Sports. “When we look at Liverpool last year and how they used to press, he was arguably the one who set the press in the front three.

“He brought something to that front line, and they are now missing that.

“Ekitike and Isak do work off the ball, but what I would say is they are attack-minded players, and I think Luis Diaz sacrificed himself a little bit more defensively.”

Chelsea defeated Liverpool thanks to goals from Moises Caicedo and Estevao, while Cody Gakpo scored for Arne Slot’s side at Stamford Bridge.
