Youth groups and women in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Adamawa State have demanded fair representation in the leadership of the party.
The groups told a news conference in Yola on Saturday that they could no longer condone a situation where only a youth leader is projected state is the youth leader who in many cases would not even be a youth
A coalition of the groups who convened the Yola conference chiefly to magnify their voice for inclusive leadership at all levels of the party, similarly spoke for women, adding that a lot more women are needed in any leadership other than the woman leader.
Chairman of the Adamawa Coalition of ADC Youth and Women Support Groups, Mohammed Adamu who read the text of the conference, specifically asked that of the 27 party executives in the Adamawa State chapter of the ADC, at least 15 should be youths and women.
He said such a formula is the answer to years of domination by older men to the disadvantage of youths and women.
According to him, the two groups: youths and women, experience significant challenges when it comes to representation.
“Youth and women inclusion is a right, not a privilege,” the coalition chairman asserted.
