The restrictive measures against those responsible for “Russia’s destabilizing actions abroad” have been extended, the Council of the European Union announced on Friday.
The sanctions remain effective until 9 October 2026 following Russia’s “hybrid activities,” including Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference against the EU, member states, and partners.
In a statement, the council noted that the measures currently apply to 47 individuals and 15 entities, who face a travel ban that prohibits them from entering or transiting through EU territories.
They are also subject to an asset freeze, while EU companies and citizens are prohibited from making funds, financial assets, or economic resources available to them.
The council had, in October 2024, adopted a framework of restrictive measures against Russia, targeting those engaged in actions and policies by the government.
The EU accuses the Russian Federation of continually undermining the EU’s fundamental values, its member states, their stability, security, integrity, and independence.
In May 2025, the EU expanded the sanctions’ scope to assets linked to Russia’s activities and financial backers, and halted the broadcasting licenses of Russian media outlets “involved in disinformation.”
In July, the EU High Representative condemned Russia’s hybrid campaigns, listed as cyber-attacks, sabotage, critical infrastructure disruption, physical attacks, information manipulation, and other covert actions.
The multinational alliance observed that the activities intensified since the beginning of the war against Ukraine in 2022 and are highly likely to continue in the foreseeable future.
