Macho man who held Kwame Ato speaks

A member of the gang seen in the viral video assaulting notorious galamsey kingpin Kwame Ato has publicly spoken for the first time since the shocking incident.

In an interview, the macho man alleged that Kwame Ato fired multiple gunshots at him, but he was saved because of what he described as a “spiritual bulletproof” he had on.

According to his account, the rival gang retaliated with gunfire and this caused the death of Kwame Ato’s young brother identified as Emmanuel Cudjoe

The ten others who had accompanied Ato to the scene fled following Emmanuel’s death.

The gang member recounted that a panicked Kwame Ato also attempted to flee but was later captured behind a building.

He claimed Ato pleaded for his release, allegedly offering GHS 1,000 in exchange for his freedom but the offer was rejected.

“He begged me to let him go, but I refused. If not for my spiritual bulletproof, I would have been dead,” he said.

The gang member explained that his group then decided to publicly humiliate Ato by dragging him into an open space, where they cut off his fingers, sliced his head, destroyed his charms and batakari (traditional war attire), and forced him to defecate on himself.
