Plateau will remain PDP state even if Gov Mutfwang defects – Ex-Senate Minority leader, Mwadkwon

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, believes that Plateau State will remain a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even if Governor Caleb Mutfwang defects to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the governorship position in the 2027 election.

There have been widespread speculations and permutations that Mutfwang could dump the PDP for the APC ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections, but Mwadkwon, who represented Plateau North Senatorial District in the National Assembly before he was removed by an Appeal Court ruling, said even if such happens, the APC would not be a threat as the state would remain a PDP state.

The former senator, who made the bold assertion during an interaction with select journalists in Jos on Thursday, also dismissed the insinuation that Mutfwang is one of four PDP governors planning to defect to the ruling APC, reiterating the governor’s recent denial of the defection rumours.

“Plateau is always a PDP state, and whether the governor leaves the party or not, the people of the state know that their love for the PDP is unparalleled,” the former lawmaker said.

He insisted that even if Gov. Mutfwang decides to leave the party and contest on another platform, the PDP would find a capable replacement for him and the party would win, advising Mutfwang to remain in the PDP as that is the only party where his best interest would be served.

“The Plateau State Governor has publicly denied any intention of joining the APC on several occasions; therefore, I don’t think he has any interest in doing so. Despite several appeals, he has refused to back down on this issue,” Mwadkwon added
