Carry courage, integrity and humility in your work – Mahama to new Appeal Court justices

President John Mahama has charged newly sworn-in Justices of the Court of Appeal to uphold courage, integrity, and humility as guiding principles in their service to the nation.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Thursday, October 2, he reminded them that justice is not a privilege but the very foundation of Ghana’s democracy and development.

“Justice is not a luxury, it is a foundation for all these,” President Mahama said.

He explained that the judiciary’s responsibility goes beyond legal interpretation to restoring the faith of citizens in fairness and accountability.

“At this moment in our national journey, Ghanaians need reasons to hold onto hope. They need to believe again that the courts are not distant temples of law but living guardians of fairness,” he stated.

President Mahama also urged the justices to resist political or financial pressure in their rulings, stressing that history celebrates judges who “stood firmly for principles when it mattered most.”

He said every ruling they deliver must reassure Ghanaians that “justice is not for sale” and that truth still prevails in the republic.
