Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, Abena Osei-Asare, has reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to enforcing accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
Speaking to the press after a three-day public hearing at Parliament House, Mrs. Osei-Asare revealed that the committee, working closely with the Office of the Auditor-General, has successfully recovered more than GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated state resources.
“What we are doing is yielding positive results. We have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a whole report on that, which we will be sharing with the public at the right time. Accountability remains a key priority for the Committee,” she emphasised.
The hearings, which began on Monday, September 29, 2025, and ended on Wednesday, October 1, scrutinised several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) implicated in financial irregularities captured in the Auditor-General’s report for the year ending December 31, 2024.
Institutions that appeared before the PAC included the Ghana Statistical Service, the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry for the Interior, the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department, and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
Others were the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Transport.
According to the MP for Atiwa East, PAC’s work goes beyond recovering funds, as it also aims to instil discipline in public financial management and prevent recurring losses.
The committee is scheduled to resume its sittings on Monday, October 27, 2025, as it continues to press for accountability across government institutions.
