A fatal road accident has killed a tricycle driver and left several others injured in Oke Osho, Temu, Ejinrin, Lagos State.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the incident was triggered when two truck drivers, who allegedly engaged in a reckless contest on the highway, lost control.
It was gathered that in the process, one of the trucks veered off its lane and rammed into a tricycle and a bicycle loaded with bags of pure water.
The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the instant death of the Keke driver, while the water vendor and several other victims sustained severe injuries.
“The impact was terrible. The tricycle rider died immediately, while others were rushed to the hospital with serious wounds,” an eyewitness narrated.
The fatality sparked outrage in the community as grieving Hausa youths, mourning their kinsman, took to the streets in protest.
They blocked the major highway, causing a standstill in traffic across Epe and crippling movement on strategic routes connecting Ikorodu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ajah.
One motorist caught in the ensuing gridlock lamented, “I’ve been here for hours. The accident is painful, but blocking the road has made things worse for everyone.”
Security operatives and community leaders swiftly intervened to prevent further escalation.
The Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Hon. Akogun Wale Anomo, led a delegation alongside the Epe Divisional Police team headed by the DCO to pacify the protesters.
They were joined by the Chairman of the Epe Tricycle Union, Xabi Alonso Saheed Pako Pashe, the Seriki of the Hausa community, and Temu youths.
Their combined efforts ensured the deceased’s body was evacuated with police support and calm restored in the area.
“We are grateful for the timely intervention of our leaders and the police. Without them, the situation could have degenerated into something worse,” a resident said.
