1. The number of those who were involved in a boat tragedy in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State has risen to 36. The National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA confirmed this in an update on Wednesday night.
2. President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria will not disintegrate under his watch. This is just as he asked Nigerians to stop talking about the country in a negative tone. Tinubu spoke on Wednesday while unveiling the renovated Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Arts Theatre in Lagos.
3. Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers of duties. Speaking at Government House, Port Harcourt, during a valedictory session with his cabinet to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, on Wednesday, Fubara said the decision had to do with the Supreme Court judgement which affected their appointments.
4. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has accused the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, of partisanship after the police command withdrew from the Independence Day anniversary parade held in Kano. Speaking during the event on Wednesday, the governor described the action as an affront to the people of Kano and to the spirit of national unity.
5. Nigeria spent a total of $2.86bn servicing external debt in the first eight months of 2025, according to the international payment data from the Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday. This accounted for 69.1 per cent of the country’s total foreign payments of $4.14bn in the period.
6. Wives and relatives of soldiers detained at the 7 Division Military Police Facility in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday appealed to President Bola Tinubu to grant them a presidential pardon. In a statement signed by their leaders, Mrs Rosel David and Mrs Abigail Jonathan, the families acknowledged the offences of the detained soldiers but pleaded that they be given a second chance.
7. A newly-inducted radiographer, Basherah Ojedeyi, has been abducted by kidnappers while travelling from Sokoto State to Osun State to resume an internship. This is just as the family said the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N200m before she would be released.
8. Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed after fire consumed no fewer than 26 shops in the early hours of Wednesday at the Bariga Market, Lagos State. The incident came barely 24 hours after the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency held a summit to address such emergencies in the state.
9. The President of PENGASSAN, Mr Festus Osifo, says the union will resume strike action if Dangote Group defaults, following the suspension of its ongoing industrial action. Osifo stated this during a news conference at the end of the union’s National Executive Council, NEC meeting, on Wednesday to assess the government’s intervention in the prolonged industrial dispute.
10. Operatives of the Police Command in Edo State have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered arms during a bush combing operation in Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state. CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday in Benin that the operation took place on Sept. 30, following credible intelligence.
