The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed sadness over the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, and vowed that those responsible for her killing will be tracked down and brought to justice.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the incident as tragic and painful.
“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad! The death of Somtochukwu is not only a loss to the Arise News family but also to the Nigerian media and the nation as a whole,” the minister said.
He assured that security operatives have begun investigations and would leave no stone unturned in unravelling the circumstances behind her death.
“The Police will unravel the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice,” Wike added.
According to the FCT Administration’s Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Somtochukwu was brought to Maitama General Hospital dead at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday.
She confirmed that a preliminary medical report would be handed over to the police to aid their investigation.
Wike commiserated with the staff and management of Arise News, especially its Chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, and also extended his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“It is my prayer that God in His infinite mercies will accept her soul and give her family members, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
