Police arrest two suspected kidnappers linked to series of ransom threats in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected kidnappers believed to be behind a string of ransom-related threats and extortion targeting residents of Doma and Lafia Local Government Areas.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspects, Abubakar Abdullahi, 28, of Jalti Village in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Isah, 32, of Tudun Alaramma in Doma, Nasarawa State, were arrested on September 29, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m. by operatives of the Doma Division.

The arrests followed complaints from residents of Saman Laraba, Doma, who reported receiving repeated phone calls from unknown persons over a two-month period.

Nansel stated that the callers allegedly threatened to kidnap them unless a ransom of ₦3 million was paid. Further investigations revealed that the same suspects had targeted several other residents of Doma and Lafia, some of whom had already succumbed to the extortion demands.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having extorted between ₦6 million and ₦7 million from different persons in both Doma and Lafia,” Nansel revealed.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further discreet investigation.

CP Mohammed assured the public of the Command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to law enforcement.

“The Command remains unwavering in its determination to rid Nasarawa of criminal elements,” he said, appealing to the public to “continue to provide useful intelligence to aid the police in ensuring a safer society.”

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
