We‘re working towards Standardised digitisation – GSA

Digital technologies remain key in enhancing the efficient operations of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), says Prof. George Agyei, the Acting Director General.
“As an entity, we rely on the movement of society. As technology is advancing, we need to adjust our activities to that. Digitisation is taken the world by surprise, so we are also working towards that area to standardise digitisation issues,” Prof. Agyei said.
He was speaking at the 2024 Annual Stakeholder’s Meeting (ASM) in Accra on Thursday on the topic: The Role of Standardisation in National Development.
The meeting was aimed to foster collaboration, transparency, and accountability in public sector governance.
According to him, agribusiness was one of the key areas that the digitalisation drive of the Authority would focus on in order to set good standards through digital monitoring.
Prof. Agyei pledged the commitment of the Authority to collaborate with its stakeholders, including the National Communication Authority (NCA), in leveraging digital technologies to enhance standardisation in the country.
Additionally, he said that the inputs that were made by the stakeholders at the meeting would help guide the Authority in its policy formulation going forward.
The Board Chairman, Mr Hudu Mogtari, said the engagement was significant as it provided an avenue to discuss progress, challenges, and future plans in line with the government’s 24-hour economic policy.
He also said the meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in discussions, share perspectives, and outline strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
“We are here not only to report, but to connect, to ensure that our planning and policies are inclusive, our services are responsive, and our performance is measured,” he said.
Mr Mogtari emphasised the Authority’s commitment to standardisation, quality assurance, and metrology, highlighting its crucial role in Ghana’s industrial transformation, consumer protection, and global competitiveness.
However, he said GSA’s success was dependent on how well it engages with its stakeholders, responds to their needs, and adapts to the evolving trends.
“Together, we will explore practical strategies to enhance operational efficiency and to ensure that the Authority remains a pivotal contributor to Ghana’s sustainable development,” Mr Mogtari added.
Mr Mogtari encouraged participants to commit to a shared vision of excellence and national purpose.
