FCT area council election: Wike backs APC candidate

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has backed the All Progressives Congress, APC, chairmanship candidate, Christopher Maikalangu ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, council election.

Maikalangu, who is the current AMAC Chairman will be seeking reelection during the area council election fixed for February 21, 2026.

Wike said Maikalangu has been very instrumental in the execution of most projects within the capital city.

He charged the people of the capital city to repay Maikalangu’s good works with a victory during next year’s election.

The minister spoke during the flagging off ceremony of the construction of an access road bypassing the airport Second runway from Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki settlement which includes a four span bridge.

He said: “And let me also say, my dear people, one good turn deserves another. Now that INEC has said area councils can go and campaign officially, you all know where we are heading to. Let me say remember, you have had area council chairmen before. Did anybody remember Tunga Madaki settlement?

“Now that you have a son Maikalangu, he always keeps reminding me day and night, Mr. Minister, remember the people of Tunga Madaki have made this request during the compensation of the land acquired for the second runway.

“Please, continue to press on Mr. President so that we can attend to them, so we can make sure the request made is being fulfilled.

“So my dear people of Tunda Madaki, I have handed over Maikalagu to you. So that, when the election will be held in February, by June, Mr. President will be here to inaugurate this road and then we will all dance and dance and then Mr. Maikalangu will come and do the needful after the next election February 2026.

“Remember the man who remembered you during the rainy season. Do you understand? All those who have nothing to offer you, tell them where were they when nobody remembered you to connect you to even the airport that you own the land. Today, you can dance by the grace of God, leave God to be the citizen and the airport.”
