Kwame Ato Asare Ani, the infamous gang leader from Axim who gained national notoriety two years ago for leading an attack on a police team and seizing their weapons, has been hospitalized after being viciously assaulted by a rival gang.
The incident occurred on yesterday in the Western Region and is suspected to be linked to ongoing turf wars over illegal mining activities (galamsey) in the area.
Eyewitnesses say Ani and some members of his group were ambushed by a rival gang during what appeared to be a confrontation over control of mining operations.
His member fled the scene leaving him alone at the mercy of the rival gang.
In the circulating video, Kwame Ato can be seen been beaten by members of the rival gang with machets.
They also gave him matchet wounds on his head, stomach, hands and legs.
Members of the rival gang also undressed him to publicly shame him. In all these, Kwame Ato was begging for help and mercy
