EPL table: Arsenal cut Liverpool’s lead at top to two points with Newcastle win

Arsenal have cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to two points.
The Gunners fought back from a goal down to defeat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James’ Park on Sunday evening.
Mikel Arteta’s men came into the game fully aware that Liverpool’s perfect start to the campaign had ended with a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
However, despite dominating the opening exchanges, it was Newcastle who took the lead through Nick Woltemade.
Arsenal reasserted their dominance in the second half and were rewarded with two late goals.
Substitute Mikel Merino headed in Declan Rice’s cross to make it 1-1, before Gabriel Magalhães rose highest to head home the winner in stoppage time.
Arsenal now have 13 points, two fewer than leaders Liverpool.
